TMO Thermo Electron Corporation is a global supplier of analytical instruments, scientific equipment, services and software solutions for life science, drug research, clinical, environmental and industrial laboratories, in addition to use in a variety of manufacturing processes and in-the-field applications, which includes those associated with safety and homeland security. Thermo Electron operates its business in two principal units: Life and Laboratory Sciences and Measurement and Control. In April 2004, Thermo Electron acquired US Counseling Services, Inc., a provider of equipment asset-management services. In July 2004, Thermo Electron sold Spectra-Physics, Inc., its optical technologies division.
