Old Republic International Corporation is an insurance holding
company. Old Republic engages in the single
business of insurance underwriting. It conducts its business through a number
of regulated insurance company subsidiaries organized into three major units:
General (property and liability), Mortgage Guaranty and Title insurance units.
The General Insurance Group provides property and liability insurance mainly to
commercial customers. Private mortgage insurance produced by the Mortgage
Guaranty Group protects mortgage lenders and investors from default-related
losses on residential mortgage loans made mainly to homebuyers who make down
payments of less than 20% of the home's purchase price. The Title insurance
business consists mostly of the issuance of policies to real estate
purchasers and investors based upon searches of the public records, which
contain information concerning interests in real property.
