MI Marshall & Ilsley Corporation is a registered bank holding company. M&I's principal assets are the stock of its bank and non-bank subsidiaries, which, as of February 2005, included Metavante Corporation, five bank and trust subsidiaries and a number of companies engaged in businesses closely related to the business of banking. Marshall & Ilsley provides its subsidiaries with financial and managerial assistance in areas such as budgeting, auditing, tax planning, asset and liability management, compliance assistance, investment administration and portfolio planning, business development, advertising and human resource management. In February 2005, the company acquired Prime Associates, Inc., an international provider of software, data and services that pertains to the regulatory and compliance mandate of financial institutions, such as anti-money laundering regulations.
