Dollar General is a discount retailer of general merchandise at everyday low prices. Through its stores, Dollar General offers a focused variety of consumable basic merchandise, including health and beauty aids, home cleaning supplies, stationery, packaged food products, housewares, seasonal goods, basic clothing and domestics. Dollar General stores serve primarily low-, middle- and fixed-income families. As of April 1, 2005, the Company operated 7,494 stores in 30 states, primarily in the southern, eastern and Midwestern United States. During the fiscal year ended January 2005, Dollar General expanded its operating region to include Wisconsin, Arizona and New Mexico, and as of April 2005, had 55 stores in Wisconsin, 29 stores in Arizona and 24 stores in the state of New Mexico.
