Compass Bancshares, Inc. is a financial services company with four operating units: Corporate Banking, Retail Banking, Wealth Management and Treasury. Compass Bancshares' principal bank subsidiary is Compass Bank, which conducts a general commercial banking and trust business. Compass Bank operates in Alabama, Colorado, Arizona, Texas, Florida and New Mexico. Compass Bancshares’ other bank subsidiary is Central Bank of the South, which is headquartered in Anniston, Alabama. Central Bank of the South has limited activities. On October 4, 2004, the Company completed the acquisition of Sevier Insurance Agency, a Birmingham, Alabama-based, full-line general insurance-brokerage company. In January 2005, Compass Bancshares completed the acquisition of Warren Benefits Group, LP, a Houston, Texas-based full-line general insurance brokerage firm.
