benefits to various customers primarily in the United States. During the year
ended December 2004, Aetna’s operations
included three business units: Healthcare, Group Insurance and Large Case
Pensions. Products offered by the Healthcare unit primarily consist of
medical and dental benefit products that include health maintenance
organization, point-of-service, preferred provider organization (PPO) and
indemnity benefit products. The Group Insurance unit provides life,
disability and long-term care insurance. The Large Case Pensions unit manages
a variety of retirement products, including pensions and annuites, primarily
for defined benefit and defined contribution retirement plans.
