Albertsons Inc.
ABS Albertson's is an operator of retail food and drug chains in the United States. As of February, 2005, Albertson's divisions and subsidiaries operated 2,503 retail stores in 37 states. These retail stores consisted of 1,521 combination food-drug stores, 265 conventional stores and 695 stand-alone drugstores as of February 3, 2005. Albertsons operated 234 fuel centers in 22 states. Albertson's retail operations are supported by 19 distribution centers. The company’s divisions and subsidiaries operate stores under the banners Albertsons, Acme, Bristol Farms, Grocery Warehouse, Jewel, Jewel-Osco, Max Foods, Osco Drug, Sav-on Drugs, Shaw's, Star Market and Super Saver. On April 30, 2004, Albertson's acquired J Sainsbury plc's United States retail grocery store business (Shaw's). The operations acquired consisted of 206 grocery stores in the New England area operated under the banners of Shaw's and Star Market. On September 21, 2004, the company acquired Bristol Farms.
